Private Jet Types and Sizes

Choosing a private jet comes down to three things: how many people are flying, how far you are going, and how much cabin space you want. This guide compares every class of charter aircraft we book, from turboprops and very light jets for short hops to ultra long range jets that fly nonstop between continents. Tap any class above to see popular models, cabin details and typical hourly rates, or get an instant estimate with our quote tool.

Every aircraft class at a glance

  • Turboprops. Propeller-driven and efficient, turboprops seat 6–8 and are ideal for short regional trips and small or unpaved runways.

  • Very Light Jets. The most affordable way into a private jet. Seats 4–5 for quick trips of about 1–2 hours.

  • Light Jets. Fast and nimble with room for 6–7, perfect for trips up to about 3 hours, such as Orange County to Las Vegas or Scottsdale.

  • Midsize Jets. More legroom, a near stand-up cabin and an enclosed lavatory, for 7–8 passengers on trips of 3–4 hours.

  • Super Midsize Jets. Large cabins and true coast-to-coast range for 8–9 passengers. A favorite for Los Angeles to New York.

  • Heavy Jets. Wide cabins, galleys and room to sleep, for 10–14 passengers on transcontinental and transatlantic flights.

  • Ultra Long Range Jets. The longest-range business jets, with 12–16 seats, separate cabin zones and nonstop reach of 6,000+ nautical miles.

  • Executive Airliners. Airliner-sized aircraft in VIP or group layouts for teams, tours and large events.

  • Helicopters. Up to 6 passengers for short transfers under an hour, landing at helipads close to where you are going.

Aircraft guide FAQs

Which private jet is right for my trip?

Start with passengers and flight time. For up to 7 people and under 3 hours, a light jet is usually the best value. For longer trips or more space, step up to a midsize or super midsize. For international flights or large groups, choose a heavy or ultra long range jet.

What is the difference between a midsize and a super midsize jet?

Super midsize jets have wider, taller cabins and more range, so they can fly coast to coast nonstop. Midsize jets are better suited to trips of 3–4 hours.

Will my flight need a fuel stop?

Only if the trip is longer than the aircraft’s range. Our quote tool flags this, and we will suggest a larger aircraft if you would rather fly nonstop.

Can I bring my pet?

On most charters, yes. Let us know when you book so we can confirm with the operator.
